SUNSET: SPLENDOR OF ENDED DAY

SPLENDOR of ended day, floating and filling me!

Hour prophetic—hour resuming the past!

Inflating my throat—you, divine average!

You, Earth and Life, till the last ray gleams, I sing. (...)

Walt Whitman (1819–1892). Leaves of Grass. 1900. Song at Sunset.

FLOWERS: MY HOMAGE TO NATURE

This post with flowers photos is my homage to nature. Even I have been living in country for nine years now, I am still unable to identify by name many plants, trees, flowers, birds... but Walt Whitman with his wise phrase about nature teach me that there is no reason to feel so guilty about my ignorance.

"You must not know too much or be too precise or scientific about birds and trees and flowers and watercraft; a certain free-margin, and even vagueness - ignorance, credulity - helps your enjoyment of these things."

Walt Whitman, american poet, journalist and essayist, best known for “Leaves of Grass” (1855), was born in 31 May 1819, at West Hills, Huntington Township, New York.

JURUMIRIM DAM AS VIEWED FROM GOOGLE EARTH

As many friends ask me where is located Jurumirim's Dam, I went to Google Earth to view Jurumirim's dam, my house in Enseada Azul, the city of Avaré and the city of São Paulo, in Brazil.

From the top of my house’s water reservoir you can see the Bridge "Carvalho Pinto" that leads to Avaré. This bridge was built to span Jurumirim's Dam.

SHADOWS UNDER TREES

After much work compiling pictures to my series about Holambra's Fields, I just want to take some time for a pleasant idleness. I need a little of "sombra e água fresca". In Portuguese "sombra" means "shadow", and "água fresca" means "fresh water". Did you get the picture? So, I need to have a time for doing nothing. The Italian people has a beautiful expression to describe the same thing: "a dolce far niente". Then I thought that these pictures would be appropriate for now.

Photos taken by myself in my garden. You can see these "Sibipiruna" trees, scientific name Caesalpinia peltophorides , in my garden HERE.

HOUSES, FLOWERS AND FARMERS

Holambra's Fields is a district, like a small town, with nice neighborhoods and friendly residents. You can see all around colorful and bucolic roads, beautiful greenhouses and many farmers.

Church of São José

You see in Holambra roads surrounded by beautiful scenery with many huge trees and colorful flowers.

You can see a Burrowing Owl (Coruja Buraqueira) on the fence

Those flowers attract many bees and this huge bee is known as "mamangaba"

All photos were taken by myself with exception of the greenhouses photos which were taken by my husband.
